[CHAD] How To Trim

Just to comment on the request to trim messages.
I have tried to follow Martha's instruction but have only been able to
remove the AVG footer.
If I try to highlight anymore of the message the entire message goes red and
is deleted if I cut or delete.
I am probably doing something wrong so could someone please offer advice.
Thanks
John

Re: [CHAD] Add/Remove Win XP IE7

Thank you Phyllis.
The entry appeared in the Your Uninstaller listing and I was able to get rid of it.
Wonder where it was hiding because a search in the registry had failed to find it plus the normal windows search.

Re: [CHAD] serial port hub

Howie,
Might you be talking about an A/B switch?  It is a simple "box of wires" with a toggle switch.  I have  2 old computers connected to one monitor that way, all connections are serial. Goggle shows several suppliers.

Re: [CHAD] DVD playback help.

OK. I went back and read all the messages in this thread.

You have an HP pavilion a264w computer with XP Sp2 and a DVD RW. It
comes with WinDVD SE and Recordnow 5.0 installed. WinDVD should allow
you to watch DVDs. Recordnow should allow you to burn DVD and CD disks.
DVD RW drives usually come with licensed versions of these software
products. If these are trial versions, you need to remove them from your
computer.

Are you having a problem with these applications? If so, give as many
details as you can.

I would even go to the Roxio site for updates to Recordnow and the Corel
site for updates to WinDVD. For updates to WinDVD, manually start the
product and see if there is an update under the help pull down list.

Tom, I have tried that. Now the laptop only sees the laptop and desktop

Re: [CHAD] Compaq DVD locks up computer

Well, since you formatted C and restored the OS from the D partition,
I'm guessing there is something in the hardware chain that screwing
things up. Windows tends to 'work' the system a lot harder than Linux
does, so the fact that a Linux CD will boot may not entirely rule out a
hardware issue. Could even be a problem with RAM.

Definitely a tough nut to crack to be sure.

Re: [CHAD] Sigmatel C-Major audio driver updates

If you can hear sound in all applications that produce it then you have
an application message. The key is to find out which one.

Most of the items in Event Viewer have a blue I for information on a
white circle. Errors have a white X on a red circle. It should take a
few seconds to use the scroll bar to look for the red circles. I
recommend that you concentrate on application and system events but you
may need to look at all four categories. Why Application and system
events? If a piece of hardware is causing the message, it will be in
system events. Application failures will be in application events.

For instance, while writing this email, I actually browsed the system
and application events and found that since I had turned my external
drive off, Acronis could not start a backup on 12/25/08. I got both an
applications error from Acronis and a write failure to the drive in the
systems events.

Note - If the last day you got the message was 12/28/08, I would only
look at that date. Your computer produces plenty of errors that you
never see and you don't need to look at them all.

Re: [CHAD] network problem

It's a bit too early in the problem to be concerned about ports. Turn
off the firewall and make the connection and then turn the firewall back
on and worry about piercing that once you have established a connection
between the computers.

Hi again!

I'm in event viewer but have no idea what I am looking for... I'll nose

[CHAD] Re: serial port hub

Try another word besides "hub" in searching. You want a switch box for
RS232. Try www.SewellDirect.com. They show a 4 port in stock.
Ebay shows one for DB-25 sockets for $8 plus shipping

[CHAD] serial port hub

I want to connect two serial port cables to a hub and be able to switch between them going to my puter.
Does anone know where to get such a beast?
A web search reveaaled nothing.
All I got was a lot of serial hubs that use a usb connection.
I don`t want that,it has to connect to the 9-pin serial port on my puter.

Re: [CHAD] PC Pandora Free Holiday Giveaway!

No problem,

I looked at their website and they address that same issue somewhere on
it, but I don't quite remember where, but I do know it's on there
somewhere. I'm pretty picky about what I use. As a monitor it's great,
as a control software it's useless in my opinion.

Bill,
I have had it working in the past many times after a friend of mine who is a computer wizard configured it for me so that is not true.

Re: [CHAD] network problem

XP Home and XP Pro will see each other on a network. Have you shared
anything on the desktop? A drive, a folder or a printer? Also, check
firewall settings. You can briefly turn the firewall off to see if it
makes a difference, then turn it back on once you've got a connection.

After I click on the My Network Places icon, both machines only display the laptop computer. Why isn't the desktop machine being seen on my network?

From what I understand both systems have to be XP PRO in order to be
configured.

Re: [CHAD] My DSL download speeds are a fifth of other users; what do I say to the ISP?

I have a Charter cable modem and the now slowest speed of 5000 down and
512 up. It never tests that high on the speedtest sites but my uploads
and downloads give true figures.

I called AT&T about a week ago and got the same snotty attitude I got
last time. Charter has went downhill considerably but they still have a
ways to fall to catch up to AT&T.
